Who it's for
Water-efficiency rebate that supports defensible space. Metropolitan Water District states it is offering $2.00 per square foot for up to 5,000 square feet of converted yard per year, plus an optional $100 per new tree (up to 5 trees, $500) per application; your local water agency may add its own incentive and amounts can vary by agency and change with funding. You must reserve rebate funds before starting. Converted areas need at least 3 plants per 100 square feet, a stormwater retention feature, no hardscape except permeable hardscape, and overhead spray sprinklers replaced or modified; synthetic turf is not an approved conversion. After reservation you have 180 days to finish and request the rebate. Rebates are listed as region-wide; turf rebates are for customers of participating water agencies. LADWP and San Diego County Water Authority pages point residents to this program.
