How this directory works

WildfireList covers California only, and it covers one kind of work: the 12 wildfire mitigation measures written into 10 CCR 2644.9, the regulation insurers know as Safer from Wildfires. Those 12 measures are the same list the CA FAIR Plan mirrors in its hardening discount schedule, which is why a homeowner usually arrives here with two questions at once: which of these measures apply to my house, and who near me actually does the work.

Every search on this site is keyed to a 5-digit ZIP code. We derive your city and county from the ZIP, and each listed business declares the area it serves, either as a set of ZIP codes it works in, as all of California, or as coverage that varies by property. A business whose exact ZIP list includes yours ranks ahead of one that simply covers the whole state, because a local crew that took the trouble to describe its real service area should not be pushed down the page by one that did not.

What the badges mean

A Verified badge means we matched an active California contractor license on CSLB. It does not mean we inspected the work or recommend the business. Where a business holds a credential such as NFPA's Certified Wildfire Mitigation Specialist, we record the date a person here checked it, and NFPA remains the authority on current status. Nothing on this site can be bought: paid placement is labeled "Sponsored" wherever it appears, a sponsored business also appears in the ordinary list in the position it earned, and no payment changes a badge.

Why a page sometimes shows no list

We do not publish a list until at least three verified businesses serve it. A directory padded with placeholder entries wastes your afternoon, so where the supply is not there yet we say so and take your details instead. When you are not sure which measure you need, the guided quiz walks through your house measure by measure, and the 12 measures guide explains what each one involves before you call anybody.
