Step 1 of 6
In the five feet closest to your house (Zone 0), what is on the ground?
What this quiz is doing
California insurers recognize 12 specific wildfire mitigation measures, written into 10 CCR 2644.9 and mirrored by the CA FAIR Plan in its hardening schedule. Most homeowners have already done two or three of them without knowing they count, and are missing one or two that matter far more than the rest. These questions sort your house into that list, in the order a mitigation specialist would walk it: the ground immediately around the walls first, then the roof, then the openings, then the deck, then the wider vegetation.
Why we start at the walls
The five feet closest to your house, which the regulation calls Zone 0, is the single highest-value area on most properties, because that is where a wind-driven ember lands, smolders in bark mulch or a shrub, and sets the building alight. Clearing it usually costs less than any other measure on the list and can be done without a permit or a contractor. Roof and vents come next, since embers entering an attic destroy houses that the fire front never reached.
What happens with your answers
Nothing is submitted while you answer. At the end we ask for a ZIP code, which we use only to show businesses that genuinely serve your area, and we show you the measures you flagged alongside the contractors and suppliers who perform them. Each measure may qualify you for a discount on the wildfire portion of your policy, but the amount is set by your own carrier, not by us, so read the FAIR Plan schedule and ask your carrier directly.
