It pays for work to meet California defensible space requirements (PRC 4291) and for removal of dead, dying or diseased trees. The council states there are no income or other qualifying conditions to participate. Defensible space grants are available once every three years, and homeowners are asked to maintain the property with simple hand tools afterward.
