- Who it's for
- Water-efficiency rebate that supports defensible space. The City of Fresno pays $4 per square foot for converting front-yard or publicly visible lawn to water-efficient plants. At least 200 square feet must be converted; the residential rebate covers up to 10,000 square feet. The $4 rate is grant-funded (Department of Water Resources Urban Community Drought Relief Grant), temporary, and available only while funds remain, first come, first served. A consultation with a City Landscape Water Conservation Specialist is required, and projects need City approval before work starts; approval to begin must come no later than December 31, 2026. Work started before approval is not eligible. The City's eligibility checklist says applicants are property owners with City of Fresno metered water service (renters need an owner permission form) and that artificial turf is not allowed.
